Safety and security have been identified as one of the five global forces that will drive the tourism industry in the new millennium, owing to a series of shocks that have recently rocked the global tourism industry. Many such direct and indirect incidents have impacted visitor numbers at key destinations. Tourists go on vacations to fulfil certain desires, wants, and needs; therefore, it is in their interest to reduce every single factor that might affect their safety. All risk factors tourists perceive could be a reason for replacing a destination with an alternative.Governments, industry representative groups, and individual businesses are all seeking to develop improved management of such risks so that potential crises can be avoided. Thus, the originality of the study aims to propose a theoretical framework for managing and mitigating the safety and security issues in India to improve the tourists’ image and perception of India as a safe destination. This will enable future tourism specialists to consider and incorporate such a framework while managing the safety and security of the tourism destinations. The study is both descriptive and exploratory, based on a qualitative research approach, and includes analysis of both primary and secondary data sources. The findings of the study reveal that India is not projected as a better tourism destination when it comes to the safety and security of the tourists as observed from previous instances. The current safety measures in India need to be made more robust and resilient in managing the risk effectively.
